Classroom Rules/Discipline
Our classroom discipline accentuates the positive by encouraging and praising children to do the right thing. Our classroom rules are based upon “treating others as you want to be treated”.

*** Minimum Day Schedule: All students 8:30 – 12:00 pm (Students do not stay for lunch on minimum days, except for students enrolled in Shining Stars Day Care.)

Arrival & Dismissal
Arrival:  Please have your child lined up along the classroom wall 5 minutes before class begins .  Students are to be lined up and waiting quietly for the teacher.  The door will be opened and children will be greeted by the teacher at 8:30 and 10:30 am.  Please supervise your child in line until the door is opened.  Attendance will be promptly taken 5 minutes after school begins
Dismissal: Schools ends at 11:55 am (morning class) and 2:45 pm (afternoon class).  Students will be walked out by the teachers and should be picked up at the front of the school office.  You many use the drive-through area or park and walk to pick up your child. PLEASE be on time!  Students who are not picked up by 12 pm or 2:50 pm will be asked to wait in the office to wait.

Absence/Tardy
Tardy: If your child is late, please get a tardy slip from the office before entering the classroom.
Absence:  If your child must be absent due to illness, please call the office at (626) 821-8357 or email the teacher. Please keep your child home if they are showing these symptoms: fever, coughing, red & itchy eyes, severe stomachache, etc.

Lunch
If your child is an afternoon student, he/she can bring a healthy lunch from home or purchase lunch from school ($3.75).  If your child is purchasing a lunch, he/she will need to memorize his/her student ID number (your child will punch in the number during time of purchase).  To place money in student’s account, you can send cash or check in an envelope with your student’s first/last name, room #, & student ID or pay in the office.

Party Policy
We have 2 class parties (Winter Holiday & Valentine’s Day) and 1 End-of-the-Year Celebration.  We know that birthdays tend to be a big deal to Kindergartners.  However, we are not allowed to take class time to celebrate birthdays at school with parties or treats.  If your child REALLY wants to do something to honor his/her birthday, we would ask you make it something small (a pencil, stickers, small goodie bag, etc.) that your child can pass out at the end of the day
If your child is having a party and inviting children from our class, we ask that you include all of the students and distribute invitations in a private manner, to avoid hurt feelings.  It can be very difficult for a child to realize that his/her friends were invited to a party of a classmate, while they were not.  Thank you for your understanding.
